A man dressed in women's clothing and makeup has been stealing cars and leading police on high-speed chases. According to Wauwatosa police, the most recent incident occurred Friday morning, when a motorcycle cop stopped a speeding vehicle and noticed the male driver was dressed as a woman. The driver quickly accelerated the car and fled. A chase ensued for about a minute, but with the fleeing vehicle reaching speeds of 100 mph and driving recklessly, officers decided to stop the chase for the safety of other drivers. Police say the driver is a 20-year-old Milwaukee man who has taken several vehicles and used them in high-speed chases, each time dressed in women's clothing and makeup.
The Milwaukee Bucks' rallying cry - "fear the deer" - turned into a punchline on Sunday afternoon when two deer burst through the glass doors of a Menomonie restaurant as patrons watched a Bucks playoff game.
The first deer apparently hurt itself, bloodying its snout and becoming dazed, said Jay Ouellette, general manager of the Stout Ale House. Two customers were able to safely wrestle it to the ground.
Things could have been worse for one man who narrowly avoided being hit by the charging deer.
Surveillance video shows the man pausing in the lobby before walking outside and closing the door behind him. Moments later he jumps out of the way as the two bucks slam into the doors, tearing them off their hinges and spraying a shower of glass.
When a pregnant Two Rivers woman thought she needed to go to the hospital to deliver her baby Wednesday, her boyfriend refused to arrange transportation, robbed and threatened to kill her, police and prosecutors alleged.
Two Rivers police arrested Michael Vinson, 46, about 2 a.m. Wednesday after responding to a disconnected 911 call the woman placed from their residence. Vinson's bail was set at $8,000 cash and he is being held in the Manitowoc County Jail.
Instead of seeking medical attention for his 36-year-old girlfriend, Vinson demanded money from her to buy beer, Assistant District Attorney Mike Griesbach said during Vinson's Wednesday bail hearing. She gave him $50 of her $150 monthly disability check, Griesbach said.
According to police and prosecutors:
-When the woman told Vinson she didn't have the rest of the money, he punched her in the head twice and waived a butcher knife in her face.
-The woman tried to escape to the bedroom, using her weight to hold the door shut. Vinson followed with the knife and tried to push the door open.
-He told the woman he was going to kill her and swiped the knife at her three times. When he forced the door open, he hung up the phone while she was trying to dial 911.
The woman suffered pain and swelling to her forehead. She was taken to Aurora Medical Center but her condition was unavailable.
Vinson was arrested for battery, robbery and endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon. Griesbach added a charge of intimidation of a victim during the bail hearing.
The Hartland Sportsmen's Club shooting range is a good quarter mile from where Raluca Buznea, 17 weeks pregnant, sat down for a casual outdoor dinner at the Delafield Brewhaus.
"Around 5:30, I felt a big pain on my left side," Buznea said Tuesday, referring to a dinner late last week with co-workers from GE Healthcare. "Initially, I thought it was a kid with a soccer ball hitting me. I thought that because I was hit a couple of times with a soccer ball and I thought it was the same thing. So I was looking for the ball and the kid and I just realized, I don't have air. I was really breathless so I stood up and then my colleague said that the bullet fell down."
Buznea was grazed Thursday by an errant .45-caliber round fired from the sportsmen's club range. The bullet created a bruise on her abdomen and scratched her, drawing some blood. She was treated at a local hospital; doctors said her baby is fine.
The incident puts the club under fire at a time it is already in the crosshairs of neighbors and city officials over noise from the range. Delafield officials are set to consider whether to revoke a permit that allows the club, in existence since 1948,to operate.
Delafield Mayor Ed McAleer said police went to the club and took two handguns. The guns and the handgun round were taken to the State Crime Laboratory, where it was determined that the round was fired from one of the guns, McAleer said.
Police Chief Scott Taubel said the gun club has voluntarily ceased shooting operations, and the club and the people shooting at the time of the incident are cooperating. The handgun was being used by a number of people, and the person who fired the errant round has not been determined
